Biography

Majid Jowhari is a community leader, father, and husband with a strong commitment and dedication to public service. Majid has lived in Richmond Hill for more than 25 years and was elected as the first Iranian-born Member of Parliament in 2015. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to bring the voice of our community to Parliament Hill.

In Ottawa, Majid has served on the Standing Committee on Health, Industry and Technology, and Government Operations and Estimates. In 2016, Majid founded and chaired the Liberal Mental Health Caucus, which he later expanded into the Parliamentary Mental Health Caucus. Relatedly, Majid introduced Bill C-375, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, to change the Criminal Code to incorporate Mental Health into the pre-sentencing report. In 2018, the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) named Majid Jowhari as a Parliamentary Mental Health Champion.

Majid holds a Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and an MBA from Schulich School of Business at York University. Majid was a licensed professional engineer from 1995 to 1999 and later founded his own boutique consulting firm. Prior to entering politics, Majid specialised in large business transitions and transformations enabled by technology where he advised companies on overall business strategy, supply chain optimization, and re-engineering business processes.

As a Member of Parliament, Majid routinely supports small businesses and community organizations in their continued growth and development. He will continue to be a strong advocate for our community in Ottawa, working with the Liberal team to make life more affordable, strengthen public health care, build more homes, and create an economy that works for all Canadians.
